Welcome to Early Childhood Special Services!

Early Childhood Special Services works with children ages 3-5 in the following school districts:  R-7 (West Plains), Richards, Fairview, Junction Hill, Glenwood, & Howell Valley.

Children with significant delays in the following areas are eligible for our services:

  • vision
  • hearing
  • cognitive/adaptive
  • speech/language
  • gross motor/fine motor
  • social/emotional/behavioral

This program is free to eligible children.

To access our services, call R-7's Special Services Director, Connie Pendergrass, at 256-6150, to make a parent referral.  This will initiate the evaluation process.  If the child meets state guidelines for eligibility, appropriate services will be provided as the diagnostic team recommends.

Nancy Brown graduated from University of Arkansas with a Master's Degree in Early Childhood. She taught kindergarten for five years before moving to Missouri, and spent the next ten years home raising her family. She has taught Early Childhood Special Education for 15 years in the West Plains R-7 District.

I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Education from the University of Columbia, certified to teach Educable Mentally Handicapped students grades 1-12.
I began my teaching career in St. Louis. It was there where my 3 boys, Danny, Tommy, and Joey were born. I left teaching for 11 years to raise my family.
In 1995 we moved to West Plains where, in 1997, I began with the West Plains R-7 Parents as Teachers Program, serving families as a Parent Educator. I stayed in that position for 5 years, 2 of those years as a State Trainer for the Parents as Teachers Program.
In 2002 I received certification to teach Early Childhood Special Education. I began my position as a ECSE teacher where I am currently. In addition to teaching, I serve families as a Parent Advisor for MO Spin, (an outreach program for the Missouri School for the Blind.)
